    • William served during the Civil War in the Infantry. They were preparing for battle by cutting timber and building breastworks. He had worked all night and had time out to rest. He went on ahead and lay down under a tree and went to sleep.

      Other soldiers not knowing he was there, cut and fell a tree on him. He was killed in the swamps near Vicksburg.
