      *****************************************

Joshua Hadley was the second son of Simon Hadley and Ruth (Miller) Kiernan. He was born in County Kings, Ireland 6 March 1703. Joshua Hadley is the Ancestor of the North Carolina Hadleys and if sometimes referred to as the father of the North Carolina Hadleys.

Joshua married first, Mary Rowland, born in 1706, died 1703 in New Castle County, Delaware. Mary was the daughter of Thomas and Mary (Mason) Rowland.

After Mary's death, Joshua married second, Patience Brown in 1735, Nottingham MM, Pennsylvania. This is the marriage our line descends from.

Joshua and Patience moved to Orange County, North Carolina in 1765.

Joshua died in Snow Camp, Orange County (now Alamance) in 1760.

Patience Brown, the daughter of Jeremiah Brown and Mary Royale was born 25 May 1712 in Nottingham, Chester County, Pennsylvania.

Patience was the great-granddaughter of William Clayton who had been one of the most prominent men in early Pennsylvania, councilor to William Penn and acting governor in Penn's absence.

As reported in Memoirs, by Effie Hadley Brindle, Patience was a direct descendant through the Claytons, Mainwarings, Earls of Chester, Richard I (3rd Duke of Normandy), Bernard and Pepin (Kings of Lombardy) to Charlemagne, Emperor of the West and King of Franks 768-814.

Patience Brown Hadley died 23 Dec 1783 in Orange Co., North Carolina.

There is a monument in the Springs Friends cemetery commemorating Joshua Hadley and Patience Brown Hadley.
