      ------------------------------------------
According to a book "History of Kansas" by Andreas, Volume II; Valentine was a Farmer, Section 35, Township 6, Range 16, P O Larkin. In 1820 to 1835 he lived at Laurel Creek, Old Carter Co (now Johnson Co, TN). In 1827 he married Elizabeth Arnold, at Carter Co, TN. In 1835 they moved to Putnam Co, Indiana, to be near his father and other relatives who had settled there and in Hedricks and Morgan Co, Indiana. There his sons grew up and worked their father's land. After being in Indiana over a decade, they moved to Pike Co, Illinois in 1843, where his cousin William Worley had settled. While in Illinois Valentine had the chance to become familiar with policies of Abraham Lincoln and later joined the newly founded Republican party.
During Valentines residence in Tennessee, he raised a company of militia and was for many years the captain of the company.
In 1850 moved to Jo Davies Co, Iowa, with cousins Elias and William, who were Methodists. They stayed in Iowa until after the Civil War.
In 1866 they moved to Jackson Co, KS, where he owned 300 acres of land, until the railroad took their property.
In 1882 moved to Wabaunsee Co, KS with son Michael near Eskridge, a now non-existent town called Chalk Mound. In 1870 they were in Clay Co, KS.
Valentine was baptized in the Zion Lutheran Church in Wythe Co, Virginia. Valentine and Elizabeth (Arnold) Worley were living in Davis Co, Iowa at the beginning of the Civil War. The nature of their family made it somewhat unique. Of the 10 living Worley children, eight were sons of fighting age and all eight went to War. When the Confederates fired on Ft. Sumter on April 12, 1861, the Worley brothers were living in either Davis Co, Iowa or Hunter Co, Kansas, an area that became Butler and Cowley Counties. Two of the brothers, Henry and Andrew served with the 9th Kansas Calvary. Both were mustered out on March 22, 1865 at DeValls Bluff, Arkansas. The other six brothers, James, Michael, John, Felix, David and Jacob joined the 3rd Iowa Calvary. David and Felix were given disability discharges in 1863. Felix died a short time later of typhoid fever. The rest served until the war ended.
Valentine, as well as his family, have been connected with the Methodist Church for many years. He joined the Republican Party about the time of the Civil War. He was a farmer, but he loved hunting, which he did almost daily (except Sundays). He kept his family adequately supplied with game.
Valentine died June 5, 1893, Wabaunsee Co, KS; buried at Chalk Cemetery, Eskridge, KS. Elizabeth died on Feb 24, 1886, she is buried beside Valentine.
